Tom Dixon and Veuve Cliquot unveil the Comet Lamp

Posted on Tuesday, January 11, 2011.

British designer Tom Dixon and champagne maker Veuve Clicquot have collaborated for the first time to create the Comet Lamp, which will be presented during Art Stage Singapore, an international event taking art place this week, January 12 – 16, celebrating the emerging art scenes of Asia.

Dixon transformed the Comet Lamp from a simple, well-made cardboard box to a romantic, luminous and sparkling lighting installation. The emblems of Veuve Clicquot and its five-branched star inspired Dixon to reference the comet that was seen in the Champagne region of France in 1811, the year of an exceptional vintage and the first year of the "modern champagnes" that were pioneered by Veuve Clicquot.
“Madame Clicquot, our founder, was well known for her audacity, and I believe she would have liked the venue and the ambition of the show," said Stephane Gerschel, Veuve Clicquot’s International Communication Director. "It is also a very special thing for us to present the work of Tom Dixon around the Comet, precisely 200 years after it shot through the skies of Champagne and was rumored to have prompted an exceptional harvest.”
