Architect Lee Mindel curates Important Nordic Design exhibition

Posted on Monday, November 14, 2011.

Architect Lee F. Mindel has curated the auction catalogue and exhibition for Important Nordic Design, an academic exploration into 20th century and contemporary Nordic design and culture at Phillips de Pury & Company in London taking place November 17.

Mindel draws together rare and exceptional works from Sweden, Denmark and Finland where he has travelled extensively. In addition, he will offer photographs of his own Nordic journeys during the exhibition, proceeds of which will be donated to various architectural and design institutions.

“Sweden, Denmark and Finland are often seen as a singular culture," said Mindel. "Although this is an over simplification, all three nations have a rigour and honesty that distill art, architecture and design to their essence. The design in this exhibition is generated by the most important Scandinavian architects, designers and craftsmen. This historic auction will be a treatise on their senses and sensibilities. The intention is to further an understanding of what makes this part of the world unique and the contribution made to culture, architecture and design.“

“Important Nordic Design has been created to give our audience an insight into this fascinating region, the genesis for much of today’s best design and architecture," said Alexander Payne, Worldwide Director of Design, Phillips de Pury & Company. "This intellectually and emotionally driven exhibition will include the finest examples—many previously unseen—from seminal exhibitions and architectural commissions.“

The auction is estimated to generate £2,000,000 - £2,800,000 and includes approximately 120 lots.
