Inaugural Salon: Art + Design show opens in New York

Posted on Thursday, November 01, 2012.

Produced by Sanford Smith in association with the Syndicat National des Antiquaires, France’s most prestigious group of dealers, the Salon: Art + Design will showcase historic and modern design, art, furniture and objects from the Louis XIV era to the present.

The show kicks off with a preview party to benefit the Kips Bay Boys and Girls Club. Hosted by James P. Druckman, President, Board of Trustees, and Jacques Grange, Chairman of the Benefit Committee, the gala will take place Wednesday, November 7 from 5:00 – 9:00 p.m. The show officially opens on Thursday from 4:00-8:00 p.m. with a cocktail party hosted by SCENE Magazine.

Fifty-three dealers from 10 countries will be displaying their finest work at this year’s fair. Among the wealth of treasures to be found at the Salon is the Cloud Shelf by Wendell Castle in the booth of Lillian Nassau of New York.

Other booths include: Felix Marchilhac, a distinguished design dealer from Paris, with an amazing directorial desk made of zinc circa 1928; Anne Autegarden of Belgium brings a rare chandelier composed of 6 plates of pink, blue, green and transparent which was manufactured by Fontana Arte, Italy circa 1950.

At Kraemer, the oldest family business in historic design in Paris, the Louis XIV Boulle Marquetry Combination Casket with chased, pierced and giltbronze mounts by André-Charles Boulle and designs by Jean Berain will be on view.

Panel discussions will take place throughout the weekend sponsored by the editors of Scene. The hours for the show are Friday, 12:00 – 7:00 p.m.; Saturday 12:00 – 7:00 p.m.; and 12:00 – 5:00 p.m. on Sunday and Monday. For a full listing of events, click here.

Show sponsors include Lalique, New York Design Center, The Hearst Corporation, New York Observer, SCENE Magazine, Cirkers & Hayes, Antiques Weeks Media and By Terry.
